Sungai Nanam Solok Becomes Onion Bio-Industri Region

Arosuka, (Antara Sumbar) - The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) launched a seed and onion bio-industries in Nagari Sungai Nanam, Solok District, West Sumatra to support the on-going self-sufficiency program of onion on Saturday.

"We facilitate the eastern starch farm group with Instance dryer onion to facilitate the farmers in the area to dry the onion, with shorter drying time for four to five days," Head of Research and Development (Balitbang) in Kementan, Risfaheri stated in Jorong Koto, Nagari Sungai Nanam, Lembah Gumanti Sub-district, Saturday.

If using traditional drying, it takes 15-20 days, while using the tool "instrore dryer" can accommodate up to 14 tons of red onion. Then, it also equipped with onion peeler machine.

Sungai Nanam has a cold temperatures so that it does require tools of instore dryer.

It will monitor the use of instore dryer or drying tools to benefit farmers' groups and other onion farmers.

"I hope the support from community, the Regent, and members of Commission IV who are present in order to provide a larger allocation of funds in order to build more instore dryers in Solok," he said.

Therefore, Solok is an area targeted by the minister of agriculture as a center of onion, would require more than one instore dryer. (cha)
