Agricultural Minister To Build Livestock Center in Aru Islands

Ambon, Maluku, (Antara Sumbar) - Minister of Agriculture, Amran Sulaiman, is determined to make Aru Islands District, Maluku Province, the center of livestock production, especially to develop cattle for export.

The Head of One Stop Door Service Office of Aru Islands, Rudy Siwabessy, stated here on Tuesday that the minister had visited the district capital Dobo on Oct 27, 2017, and promised to provide 200 cows to the locals as an encouragement to start developing livestock in the area.

According to him, the minister would also provide the germ plasma to the people.

During his visit, the minister had a meeting with the Vice Governor of Maluku, Zeh Sahuburua, and Aru Islands Regent, Johan Gonga. The minister also organized investors who were ready to buy the people's farms productions.

The minister also supported the acceleration of cattle farming production and promised to provide mechanical equipment of about 10 tractors for the people.

He hoped that this breakthrough would help in cutting down meat imports, especially ahead of the celebration of religious holidays.

Aru Islands is suitable for large-scale livestock development, because of its vast areas of lands with soil characteristics suitable for the development of animal feed.

During the visit to Dobo, the minister also gave 5 thousand chickens to the locals for developing livestock. (*)
