W Sumatra New Paddy Field Realization Reached 450 Hectares

Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - The Office of Food Crops, Horticulture and Sumatran Plantation, recorded the realization of new paddy fields in the province until October 2017 reached the number of 450 hectares.

"Developing new paddy field is one of the efforts to increase rice production," Head of Facility and Infrastructure of Agriculture Department of Food Crops, Horticulture and Plantation of West Sumatra, Syafrizal told in Padang, Monday.

The realization is located in Dharmasraya District 150 hectares and Agam District 71 hectares.

Next, West Pasaman District 137 hectares, and South Solok 92 hectares. The target of paddy fields in West Sumatra in 2017 are 600 hectares.

Then, in 2016 it has realized a new paddy field of 599.94 hectares.

The new paddy field process consists of several stages, namely the land clearing process which is the initial stage in the process of printing new fields by using heavy equipment.

Then the process of equity of the hilly land to minimize the slope of land by excavation on the land which is flattened then.

"Furthermore, it also includes the manufacture of embankment, irrigation network, agricultural road, soil processing, and planting," he said.

Implementation of new paddy fields in several areas in West Sumatra in cooperation with members of the TNI in the area.

Syafrizal expressed the constraints of farmers after the developing of new fields, such as soil conditions that have not been dawn so that rice production has not been maximized.

To that end, it provides assistance through agricultural extension, channeling assistance seeds, fertilizers, and agricultural equipment. (cha)
