Parit Malintang, (Antara Sumbar) - A total of 40 personnel of the Padang Pariaman District resort police in West Sumatra have participated in an English language training course in an effort to support the Halal tourism program, a spokesman said.

"Some time ago, West Sumatra was designated as a halal tourist destination of the world, so English-speaking security officers are needed to handle the increasing number of foreign tourist visits," Yosa Novia Dewi, organizing committee chairman of the English language training program, remarked here, Friday.

During the two-day English training program, the police personnel were given guidelines to improve their listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities. The program was conducted by a number of English lecturers.

The lecturers who were assigned the training program included some from higher learning institutes in the provinces of West Sumatra, North Sumatra and Jambi, Dewi said.

Police Commissioner Amral of the Padang Pariaman resort police office noted that such English training programs could improve the communication ability of the police personnel, including of those on duty at the Minangkabau international airport in the West Sumatra capital city of Padang. (*)
