Parit Malintang, (Antara Sumbar) - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) of RI built 10 beach protections during 2017 with a budget of around Rp55 billion to protect coastal region from the swift waves.
"The 10 shore protectors will vary in shape depending on regional needs," Official of Directorate General of Marine Spatial Management of KKP Dr Abdul Muhari stated in Parit Malintang, Tuesday.
It was said during the socialization of the construction of marine protector in Pasir Baru, Sungai Limau Sub-district, Padangpariaman District, West Sumatra, Tuesday.
The ten coastal protected areas are West Aceh, Pangandaran, Cirebon, Demak, Rembang, Gersik and Padangpariaman and others.
The development of coastal protection has reached 30 to 40 percent while West Aceh and Padangpariaman are just implementing the development.
Especially for the construction of coastal protection at Nagari Pasir Baru, Sungai Limau Sub-district, KKP makes two coastal shelters on the left and right side of estuary.
"The goal in addition to minimize abrasion and also aims to facilitate fishermen to get out into the sea," he said.
Moreover, because of the absence of such protector of sand carried by waves piled up in the mouth of the estuary, so that when the tides of fishermen can not sail, he said.
Meanwhile, Head of Marine Spatial Management and Marine Resources Office of West Sumatra, Alber Krisdiarto said similar conditions also occur in Muara Pasir Baru, Muara Anai, Padangpariaman.
"Therefore, with the help of ministry, local government is helped in disaster mitigation and it helps fishermen," he said.
However, he hopes Padangpariaman District Government is seeking or budgeting funds to create similar protectors in the area because with the development it will have an impact on other areas.
Chief Executive Officer of Padangpariaman District Fishery Office, Alfian said the development was carried out for 70 working days and during that time, it was expected local community to assist the contractor. (cha)
