Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - The Mayor of Padang Municipality, West Sumatra, Mahyeldi Ansharullah expects export and import activities between Indonesia and abroad is done to benefit Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the area.

"For MSMEs, it is certainly profitable in terms of market opportunities," Mahyeldi said in response to a possible strengthening of Padang's cooperation with Indian state, in Padang on Monday.

He cited the cooperation between Indonesia and India as it is being pursued. Padang currently can open the market space for MSMEs in the country.

Not only Padang receives imported goods, but also barter in terms of MSMEs products that can be marketed.

For that, his side together with entrepreneurs will seek MSMEs products in Padang marketed in that country.

So far, Padang in particular, West Sumatra generally routinely export gambir to India, the results have not been profitable.

In the future, it will encourage MSMEs, especially in the field of craft or culinary which can create innovations from gambir.

So that in the future, we will not only export gambir, but also other products to India.

India is big enough for MSMEs with the second largest population in the world.

"It is also hoped that it is not only the effort of regional encouragement but also the center that has a role in establishing the synergy," he said.

Meanwhile, one of the perpetrators of MSMEs in Padang, Zulkifli (50) assess the role of government and large entrepreneurs to find MSME product market is very minimal.

As in Padang, UMKM actors tend to be independent and seek their own markets.

Even if there is help channeling only at an exhibition or festival whose impact so far is not very positive for improving the living standard of economy.

"We hope to find the right market and benefit various parties," he added. (cha)
