Painan, (Antara Sumbar) - Pesisir Selatan Regency is ready to plant corn in 10,000 hectares area with 150 tons seeds from West Sumatra Provincial Government assistance, in an effort to realize corn self-sufficiency in the area.
"The assistance of seeds has all been channeled and also has been planted," Head of Department of Food Crops, Horticulture and Plantation of West Sumatra Candra stated in Painan, Wednesday (Oct 11).
It was said after the corn harvest simultaneously in the expanse of Tunas Muda Farmer Group, Nagari Pelangai Kaciak, Ranah Pesisir Sub-district, Pesisir Selatan District.
With the allocation, it is targeting corn production in South Pesisir at number of 143,953 tons in 2017.
South Pesisir is one of the corn centers in the area which the production in 2015 reached 108,976 tons and in 2016 increased to 158,160 tons.
Until September 2017, the realization of corn planting in South Pesisir has reached 16,493 hectares and it has harvested area of 19,910 hectares.
The allocation of 150 tons of corn seeds is done to fulfill the province's target of 125,593 hectares of corn by targeting corn production of one million tons in 2017, he added. (cha)
