Padang Panjang, (Antara Sumbar) - The price of red chili in Padang Panjang Municipality, West Sumatra, stood at Rp40,000 per kilogram for the last two weeks after rising from Rp25,000 per kilogram.
"The price still at Rp40,000 per kilogram in the second week of October 2017," Head of Padang Panjang Trade Office said in Padang Panjang on Wednesday (Oct 11).
The previous price hike in Padang Panjang traditional market is still reasonable.
The price of red chili always fluctuates every day, due to unpredictable supply and demand.
"It is already a law of the market, if the availability of goods is slightly the demand of the same or increased, then the price of chili will increase and vice versa," he explained.
Not only red chili price, cayenne pepper price also increases from Rp28,000 to Rp34,000 per kilogram.
While other basic needs such as sugar traders currently still sell for Rp12,000 per kilogram, cooking oil without brand Rp11,000 per kilogram, wheat flour brand blue triangle Rp10,000 per kilogram.
Furthermore, pure beef Rp120,000 per kilogram, broiler chicken Rp20,000 per kilogram, onion Rp20,000 per kilogram and rice the best quality Rp11,500 per kilogram.
Members of Parliament of Padang Panjang, Hendra Saputra expects government through the relevant agencies, can overcome the price increase on the chili.
"Although the increase is still normal, but the anticipation should be done as early as possible, so the price spike does not happen suddenly," he added. (cha)
