Solok Develops Agro-Tourism of Durian

Solok, (Antara Sumbar) - Government of Solok Municiaplity, West Sumatra develops a durian agro-tourism area in Lubuk Sikarah to support tourism sector there.

Head of Solok Agriculture represented by the Secretary Kusnadi Adriyetti in Solok, on Friday (Oct 6), said the purpose of the development of the central region of durian is creating a prosperous peasant family farming agribusiness tough minded.

"In addition, it aims to increase the income and quality of farmers' institutions," she said.

Durian agro-tourism area will be developed in three urban villages in Lubuk Sikarah Sub-district, namely IV Suku, Tanah Garam, and Payo with a total land area of about 174.47 Ha.

"The development involves 18 farmer groups in Solok with a budget of more than Rp614 million," she added.

Type of durian to be planted is local varieties Sahalai Sarawah and durian superior. The development of durian area utilizes the yard and sleeping land in the city.

To that end, there will be demonstration plots (a method of agricultural extension services to farmers, by making a pilot area, so that farmers can see and prove to the object demonstrated) of durian crop monoculture in two hectares land.

By doing durian plants as a means of learning and nature tourism or agro-tourism in Solok, it is expected that in 2020 Solok will be famous for the durian village. (cha)
