Bukittinggi, (Antara Sumbar) - Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of Bukittinggi Municipality, West Sumatra noted red chili to be one of the commodities that triggered inflation in the area in September 2017.

Head of Bukittinggi BPS, Mukhlis in Bukittinggi, Tuesday (Oct 3), said the region had inflation of 0.31 percent in September 2017.

Price increases mainly occur in subgroups of spices, sub-groups of personal goods, other clothing and educational subgroups.

A number of commodities that experienced the largest price increasing during the month are red chili, college, tuna fish, gold jewelry, green chili, rice, eels, portable computers and others.

On the other hand, the decline in prices occurs in commodities of chicken meat, onion, jengkol, orange, potato, tilapia and beans.

Of the 23 cities in Sumatra, 16 cities experienced inflation and seven cities experienced deflation.

The highest inflation occurred in the city of Medan of 1.08 percent and the lowest in Dumai 0.05 percent.

Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Tanjung Pandan at 0.87 percent and the lowest in Tembilahan by 0.01 percent.

Bukittinggi is in the ninth ranked of all cities experiencing inflation in Sumatra and the 17th in nationally.

Previously, Head of Bukittinggi Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID), Yuen Karnova said the area is cooperating with the producing regions to fulfill the needs in Bukittinggi.

"Chili is one of the commodities whose price is often volatile, because it is not a producing area, through the planting movement of chili residents are encouraged to use the garden to plant it," he added. (cha)
