Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Ketaping, Padangpariaman predicts the peak of rainy season in West Sumatra occurs from October to November 2017 so that disaster potential is expected to increase.

"Climatologically, West Sumatra has an equatorial rainfall type that causes two times of rainy season peak a year namely March-April and October-November," Head of Observation BMKG Ketaping, Budi Samiadji stated while being contacted from Padang on Monday (Oct 2).

This is supported by the historical data of the last 10 years reviewing from October-November in West Sumatra in general wet stock (dominated by rainy weather).

Wind patterns around the region of West Sumatra dominated by the wind from Australia through the Indian Ocean which is rich of air vapor.

In October and November, weather disturbances become frequent in low-pressure areas due to wind and cyclonic wind patterns.

Yields in banjar in October-November increased with moderate intensity. The increase is almost evenly distributed across districts and cities in the province.

Areas located in the Mentawai, Padang (Lubuk Paraku, Limau Manis, Padang, Gado gado), Padangpariaman, Solok, Sawahlunto, South Pesisir and Agam.

Then, Padang Panjang, Solok District, Pariaman, Lima Puluh Kota, Tanah Datar, South Solok, parts of Sijunjung, West Pasaman, Pasaman, Agam.

Although the weather is dominated by rain, there are days of cloudy sunny weather conditions.

BMKG predicted that bad weather could be a disaster of floods, landslides and flash floods.

Areas that require increased alertness to Mentawai (Siberut), Padang (Lubuk Paraku, Sitinjau Laut, Limau Manis, Padang, Bukit Gado-gado, Teluk Bayur and surrounding areas).

Then, Anai Valley, Sitinjau Laut, Maninjau, Malalak, Bukittinggi-Pasaman, Lima Puluh Kota, South Solok, West Pasaman, part of Tanah Datar, South Pesisir (Tarusan, Painan, Kambang, Air Haji, West Sumatra-Bengkulu, Lunang Silaut), Sawahlunto and Sijunjung.

Head of Regional Disaster Management Agency of West Sumatra, Nasridal Patria said coordinate data from BMKG to the districts and municipalities in West Sumatra for the following-up.

"Each region must prepare itself according to the potential of existing disaster. Coordination between regions and provinces also needs to be improved," he added. (cha)
