W Sumatra To Be Rice Barn in Indonesia: Governor

Arosuka, (Antara Sumbar) - West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno expects the commemoration of World Food Day XXXVII in Sawahlunto to push the province into a rice barn in Indonesia.

"The warning activity can provide motivation for youth and food development in West Sumatra to become a food barn in Indonesia," Irwan Prayitno stated while attending the commemoration of World Food Day XXXVII in Sawahlunto on Friday (Sept 29).

According to the theme of this year's food warning, "Moving the young generation in developing agriculture towards Indonesia's world food granary", it is expected the contribution of young men in improving and developing the food production result both in science and technology.

He also reminded all regional heads to do not allow any vacant land and always empower the empty lands so there is no reduction in the amounting of agricultural land that can reduce production.

Switching the functioning of agricultural land into settlements has reduced the amount of food production in the time of the need for higher homes as it is now.

"Through World Food Day, we can increase our motivation to increase food demand in West Sumatra especially and Indonesia in general," he said.

Chairman of TP-PKK of West Sumatra, Nevi Irwan Prayitno appealed the activity to be a positive thing in order to provide healthy food consumption, safe, nutritious and balanced.

Eating healthy foods creates quality human resources in the future.

The activity is expected to be a motivation to develop intensity in the preparation of recipes of diverse family nutrition menu based on local resources, she said.

On the anniversary of World Food Day, Solok District won a number of awards, namely the increase of rice commodity production above five percent (fifth rank in West Sumatra), increased yield of corn commodities above five percent (fourth rank in West Sumatera).

Then the category of perpetrators of Food Security Development, Empowerment Group was ranked III by Gapoktan Jonjang Saribu Nagari Sulit Air X Koto Diatas.

Category Pioneer of Food Security, ranked one on behalf of Al Najmi M.Gafar, Nagari Koto Gaek Guguak, Gunung Talang Subdistrict, Solok District.

The event was attended by West Sumatraa Governor, West Sumatran PKK Chairman, Regent and Mayor of West Sumatra, Head of West Sumatra Food Service, Head of West Sumatra Industry and Commerce Office, Secretary of Solok District, and Sawahlunto Official Government. (cha)
