Simpang Empat, (Antara Sumbar) - The price of red chili in West Pasaman District, West Sumatra since Eid al-Adha to this day continues to increase.

"It is true, the price of red chili continues to increase after Eid al-Adha from Rp20 thousand to Rp40 thousand per kilogram," one trader at Simpang Empat market, Salan stated, on Tuesday (Sept 26).

He said before Eid al-Adha, one kilogram of red chili is sold for Rp20 thousand but currently rose to Rp38 thousand even up to Rp40 thousand.

According to him, the price increase is due to high demand and lack of supply from farmers.

Especially in West Pasaman, most people prefer to use local chili.

In addition, the rise in prices is also due to the supply of chili from outside West Sumatra such as Medan or Java which is still minimal. So that local chili is difficult to get and trigger a rise in price.

He predicted the price of chili will continue to rise in the future, along with the number of disasters or extreme weather that hit a number of areas.

As a result, farmers have difficulty to grow chili or other commodities.

Another trader, Suryani, said that most of traders in Simpang Empat market depend on the supply of local chili especially from Pasaman and West Pasaman.

They hope the government can move and oversee the agents or mischievous traders who do the hoarding of chili, thus triggering an increase in prices beyond the limits of reasonableness.

We do not want any people who raise the price beyond fairness, if it is proven, it will be dealt with," he said. (cha)
