Jakarta, (Antara Sumbar) - State-owned cement company Semen Baturaja has expressed its commitment to making its cement plant environment-friendly through silvicultural engineering.

Silvicultural engineering is a concept of environmental rehabilitation of factory areas by neutralizing the toxic levels arising from industrial exploitation and then re-fertilizing the environment.

"Along with business growth and production capacity, we are committed to protecting the nature through the application of silviculture in our factory," President Director of PT Semen Baturaja Rahmad Pribadi said in a press release received here, Friday (Sept 22).

The application for silvicultural technology, Rahmad noted, was one of the efforts being made by the state-owned enterprises to realize sustainable industry practices.

"We are the first cement producer to apply silviculture, but we expect a number of other state-owned cement companies to follow us," Rahmad stated.

Earlier, Rahmad said that the company had targeted to book around Rp 2 trillion in cement sales by the end of this year, following the start of the operation of a new factory.

In 2016, the company recorded Rp1.52 trillion worth of sales.

Meanwhile, the firm's revenue only increased by 4.1 percent year on year in 2016, while its net profit dropped by 21 percent to Rp274.09 billion, as a result of the rising costs. (*)
