Padang Aro, (Antara Sumbar) - The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) revealed the achievement of National Artificial Insemination (IB) until September 14, 2017 reached 2,501,044 animals or 62.11 percent of the the target of 4,026,948 animals.

"New cuts reached 850,447 or 28.19 percent of the target 3,016,334 animals," Director of Animal Health Ministry of Republic of Indonesia Fadjar Sumping Tjatur Rasa stated at the closing of Livestock Expo of West Sumatra in South Solok on Wednesday (Sept 20).

For West Sumatra alone, the achievement of IB until 14 of September 2017 were 63,735 animals or 57.27 percent of the target of 111.293 tails.

As for pregnancy, only 26,620 or 35,17 percent of the target.

Especially for South Solok District, achievement of IB until September 17, 2017 were 914 animals or 30,67 percent from target 2,980 animals.

For pregnancy in South Solok, it reached 459 or 22,66 percent from target 2,026 animals.

"From the data of IB performance, pregnancy and birth are still low and have to work hard to reach the target," he said.

He hoped that the next month's achievement of the program should be driven by various efforts.

These efforts optimize the roles of provincial and district coordinators to focus on boosting performance, IB evaluation including synchronization and reporting.

Furthermore, evaluation of each inseminator per day, encouraging the acceleration of synchronization implementation be done to increase performance significantly.

Related to the strengthening of economies and institutional scale of the farmers, government is seeking a series of policies such as shifting the pattern of individual cattle breeding toward the group with colony perception.

Besides, several actions also be done including the development of cattle-palm integration pattern, pasture field, optimization of ex-mining land and facilitation of Cattle Livestock Business Insurance (AUTS).

West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno said based on research of Andalas University, the province could develop two million livestock.

"We must optimize the potential because the land is still wide," he said.

In addition, people are encouraged to focus more on nursery and development.

"Until now, people still focus on fattening and seedling, the number is still very small," he added. (cha)
