Painan, (Antara Sumbar) - The Government of South Pesisir District, West Sumatra, plans to develop Root Bridge as an exclusive tourist attraction by building a permanent bridge at its side.

"The permanent bridge will be a place for tourists who want to explore the beauty of Root Bridge without having to pass it," North Bayang Sub-district Head Ronald Bernando told in Painan on Monday (Sept 18).

Nevertheless, if tourists still want to explore the beauty and uniqueness of Root Bridge directly then it will cost extra, but it must pass through at least three tourists only.

That is, in addition to increase the popularity of Root Bridge as well to maintain the bridge that has been over a century old.

"Root bridge has been aged more than a century, so that if it continuously bypassed tourists and local community, of course sustainability difficult to awake, but it is more exclusive of providing to add value," he said.

According to him, the plan to build a permanent bridge on the side of the Root Bridge will be included in Regional Budget (APBD) of South Pesisir in 2018.

"Currently if there is such budgeting, the development immediately implemented because the land acquisition has been completed," he said.

Separately, a trader at Root Bridge, Imel (36) admits she is looking forward to a breakthrough from local government in promoting the unique bridge.

This is due to the loneliness of visitors since the last few years due to several factors such as the increasing popularity of several other tourist attractions in the South Pesisir such as Mandeh and Beach Area of Carocok Painan.

Tourism Object namely Root Bridge is formed from braided two banyan trees and stretches over River of Batang Bayang, North Bayang Sub-district.

The location is approximately 85 kilometers from the city of Padang to the south and about 25 kilometers from Painan. (cha)
