Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - The government of Padang Municipality, West Sumatra, plans to install 21 monitoring cameras or Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) to monitor traffic in the area.

The head of local Transportation Agency, Dedi Henidal in Padang, Friday (Sept 15) said the installed CCTV will be equipped with a loudspeaker to disseminate traffic awareness to the public.

"It is useful for the safety of motorists on the road," he said.

He explained that so far there are many riders who violate traffic, such as through traffic lights, do not wearing helmets and other traffic violations, although signs have been installed.

With installed CCTV equipped with loudspeakers, rider who is violating traffic signs will be monitored.

If a motorist encounters a traffic violation as exceeding the zebra cross limit or a four-wheeled vehicle that stops at the stop-room of a two-wheeled vehicle, the brightness will automatically be known and the officer who monitors through the monitor will immediately rebuke rider through the loudspeaker.

The point that already has previous CCTV, then will be maintained to function properly.

He mentioned 21 points of installation of CCTV among others at the junction of A Yani, Adabiah, Alai, Alang Lawas, Ganting, Simpang Haru, Sawahan, and Jati.

In addition, he said, local government has designed a special application that people can download on smartphones to monitor congestion routes in the area. (cha)
