Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - West Sumatra Provincial Government hopes the initial stage of Padang-Pekanbaru toll road construction, starting from Padang-Bukittinggi because the positive effect can be directly felt by community.

"The plan of the construction started on Padang-Sicincin segment, which is very appreciative, but if we can ask, the route will be extended to Padang-Bukittinggi," West Sumatra Governor Irwan Prayitno said in Padang on Friday (Sept 8).

He expressed this in a coordination meeting of Padang-Pekanbaru toll road construction with the head of the tragedy passing area, Regional Device Organization (OPD), other policy stakeholders and PT Hutama Karya.

According to Irwan, Padang-Bukittinggi is currently the main line which has a number of severe traffic jams that have not been resolved.

If the initial construction of Padang-Pekanbaru toll road can be from Padang to Bukittinggi, it will certainly help congestion problem.

"The benefits will be felt by people of West Sumatra, although the toll is only built partly," he said.

He asked Hutama Karya party who assigned to build toll road can consider it.

Meanwhile, West Sumatra Provincial Government will also coordinate it with relevant ministries at the center in order to be implemented.

Related to land acquisition, he said for Padang-Sicincin along 27 kilometers has been released. But the width is only 40 meters, while the need is 60 meters.

Regent of Padang Pariaman Ali Mukhni has expressed his willingness to assist the land acquisition 20 meters away.

Senior Manager of Trans Sumatra Toll Transportation Technique from Hutama Karya, Dinny Suryakecana said according to the plan of development of Padang-Pekanbaru toll, it will be divided into three stages.

The first stage, Padang-Sicincin along 27 kilometers, followed by stage II Pekanbaru-Bangkinang about 17 kilometers.

Phase III completes the middle path between Sicincin-Bangkinang.

Now is the process of preparing the Land Procurement Planning Document (DPPT) which contains trace and appraisal.

Based on the trase, local government can socialize land acquisition to community with a system of land compensation.

Related to West Sumatra Provincial Government's hope that the early stage development could be from Padang-Bukittinggi, he said it would communicate to relevant leaders and ministries.

The 240 kilometer-long Padang-Pekanbaru toll is a strategic project based on Presidential Regulation No. 58 of 2017 regarding PUPR's National Strategic Program.

It is estimated that the project will swallow a budget of Rp70 trillion. (cha)
