W Sumatra Held Farmers' Market Four Times a Month

Padang, (Antara Sumbar) - West Sumatra Provincial Government held a farmer's market four times a month, then on Wednesday it is held at the office of local governor's in an effort to mobilize.

"We hope this brilliant idea can really be perceived by the farmers," Governor of West Sumatra, Irwan Prayitno said while opening the farmer's market in Padang on Wednesday (Sept 6).

According to him, turbulent food is one of the factors causing inflation in West Sumatra to be important for related stakeholders attention.

He hopes farmers' market organized by Department of Food Crops, Horticulture and Plantation in cooperation with the team of West Sumatra PKK can be one of the balancing instruments.

In addition, farmers' markets are also facilitating public to get cheap prices or below market prices.

"This is important, do not let the selling price here above the market price," he said.

Supervision of the price according to him, must be done continuously so that people are not harmed. In fact, if there are traders and farmers who are caught selling at a higher price than the market, it should not be given permission to participate in the same activity.

Meanwhile, Head of Food Crops, Horticulture and Plantation of West Sumatra, Candra added that the participating parties in this farming market are small farmers and traders in West Sumatra, besides the representatives of BUMNs such as Bulog.

"Our hope is to help farmers in marketing their products while helping to keep regional inflation rate," he said.

Commodities sold in the farmers' market such as rice, vegetables, fruits, cooking oil, meat and even 3 kilograms of LPG. (*)
